QUALITY HEALTHCARE

GOAL: Improve maternal mortality rates from 278 deaths per 100,000 births to 100 deaths per 100,000 by 2026

PROGRESS SO FAR: As part of the New Dawn government’s commitment to providing high quality healthcare the last two years have seen a significant investment into all aspects of healthcare, especially maternal health. This includes the construction of new hospitals, the facilitation of new maternity annexes, and the commitment that resources are continuously allocated to those who need them through CDF.

  • The government has constructed 62 maternity annexes, 19 of which were financed by the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

  • In 2024, the government is planning the construction of 30 more maternity annexes.

  • Ensuring resources directly impact communities for development on a local scale, the budget allocation to the CDF has been increased in the 2024 budget to K4.8 billion – allowing for the provision in part of more maternity wings in local hospitals.
