Embracing The Future: St Ignatius College Jumps onto E-Learning Wave in Zambia
The Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU) recently undertook an evaluation of the newly implemented E-learning Platform at St Ignatius College, a distinguished Jesuit School in Lusaka.
This initiative, led by Huawei Technologies and backed by the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Technology and Science, and the PDU, signifies a substantial stride towards the modernization of education delivery in Zambia through Technology and Innovation.
During the evaluation, Mupota Muchelemba, the PDU's Delivery Manager for Technology and Innovation, lauded St Ignatius College for its innovative approach to delivering quality and equitable education services. He also underscored the school's contribution to the Huawei Smart Village project, which enhances digital connectivity across various regions of the country.
Mr. Muchelemba articulated the government's approval of the digital classroom concept, stressing its congruence with digital inclusion—a Presidential priority aimed at equipping all Zambians with digital access and literacy for proactive participation in the emerging digital economy.
Annie Munsaka, Assistant Director of Digital Technologies at the Ministry of Technology and Science, reassured the school of the government's commitment to supporting the sustainability of the new technology.
Mary Chanda, Principal of St Ignatius College, accentuated the necessity of preserving the technology, recognizing its importance as a vital instrument for improving learning outcomes.
The E-learning platform promotes collaborative teaching, allowing teachers to share notes with learners, conduct both in-person and remote lessons, and utilize online teaching platforms such as Zoom, We-Meet, and Google Classroom for assignments and assessments. Despite challenges associated with costs and device availability for other grades, the platform serves as a beacon of innovation in the education sector, bridging the divide between urban and rural learning environments.
